Residential Landscape Design
At Nimrod Long and Associates, we create beautiful and
inviting outdoor living spaces by integrating the landscape and
architecture of the home. The outdoor spaces we design connect seamlessly
with interior spaces and reflect the unique architecture of the home. We
strive to give the house a sense of time and place in the garden. It is of
the utmost necessity that the house fits perfectly into the site.
To create a sense of place, we use a classical
approach to design, relying on proven design principles and durable,
maintainable solutions. There are two design theories on which we rely.
First is the low-maintenance shade garden, which uses primarily native
plants. Second is the formal, English style garden, which encompasses
clipped hedges, topiaries and perennial beds. It is common to find that
the two have been combined. It is fundamental to make each garden
welcoming, focusing special attention on detail and materials that reflect
the Owner’s lifestyle and interests. We recognize the importance of real
materials, such as stone and brick.
Nimrod Long and Associates recognizes that successful
projects begin with bold simple design solutions. We address practical
issues within the framework of the design, and bring a thorough knowledge
of sound construction detailing and quality materials to the design
process. A collection of construction documents is prepared and approved
in the office for every design. This construction set consists of a layout
plan, a grading and drainage plan, construction details and elevations, a
planting plan, and a lighting plan. Through sound design, detailed
construction documents, and professional construction administration, we
provide our clients with years of enjoyment in their outdoor living spaces
and gardens.
We use a large palette of plant materials to create a
strong structure in each garden. Evergreens are the backbone plants of our
gardens, providing a foil for flowering, deciduous plants. We believe
strongly in utilizing native plants for their hardiness, character and
beauty. Multi-trunk specimen trees are placed to accent important places
in the garden, as are unique pots and sculpture. Water also plays a major
role as an accent piece in many of our designs. We use lively water
features and exuberant perennials to create lush and intimate courtyards.
